I came across this old warehouse when I met the owner of Gabriel Ross Furniture, they had recently purchased the building and were about to renovate the space into a modern, industrial showroom, he is even going to keep some of the original pulley’s and old school details.

There was a small window between clearing the space of circa 1930′s debris and the renovation, in which Ross was kind enough to let us into the space one December afternoon.

It’s a team effort and I would like to thank the ever-talented Jenna McInnes for her hair and makeup wizardly, Franklin Porter for his keen eye for wardrobe and extensive collection of vintage garments and accessories, Grace Walling for her excellent modelling awareness (and for putting up with my demands : ), my sister Amber for assisting with the not so glamorous jobs and Mike Zinger for an amazing trailer to showcase some behind the scenes mayhem. There’s no telling how much fun you can have with a smoke machine rental (I had it for the day so that night I tricked my boyfriend into thinking  I almost burned down the kitchen – which isn’t hard to fathom given my cooking skills).

On their wedding day, nothing could keep these two from smiling.  Channa is just so full of life, she’s like a little firecracker, and she looked super romantic and adorable in her dress! Her smile is what really made her radiant though. Devon looked rather dapper and excited, and I was not surprised to see him shed a couple tears post-ceremony.

We started the day with a “first look” so we can take photos before the ceremony and goof off for a bit before the wedding. This was at a beach called Cattle Point along Dallas rd, and it is where Devon proposed to Channa. The sky was unbelievable and perfect for the photos!

The whole family was amazing and welcoming. Also, they had a pretty hot bridal party to be honest. Everyone was lots of fun to shoot and it felt like Jesse and I were just guests at the wedding. The groomsmen were especially entertaining.

The wedding was held at one of my favorite Victoria wedding locations, the “Sea Cider Farmhouse”. It is a beautiful rustic venue with large windows and an apple orchard. Channa’s rustic country details were a perfect fit. Even the cake topper looked at home somehow, which is impressive considering that it was a car model of Devon’s T-ford (the other love of his life- nee, his high school sweetheart).

We were certain to get some photos of the happy couple with that trusty steed.

I am very happy for you both! Thank you so much for inviting me into your day, it was so full of love and I went home that night feeling lighter.

Luckily, they both have a great sense of humor and we were able to make the most of our rainy day engagement shoot. They were such troopers, sitting on the slick cold merry-go-round while I spun them around in the downpour!

Okay. So first I need to apologize to everyone about my lack of blogging this year. I can tell you that 2011 has been crazy busy and overwhelming in the best of ways, and now that the wedding season is winding down, I am pledging to be back on the blogging horse because I really enjoy showcasing the truly incredible clients that I have had the good fortune of meeting.

Which brings me to the main topic of this post; Two of the most kind-hearted and creative individuals that have fused into one lovely marriage.
This post in particular has been on the back burner for awhile because I don’t even know where to start with the awesomeness that was Karen and Jesse’s Barbados knot-tying. Half of the wedding attendees, like the couple, were from the New York/Brooklyn area, the other half came from London. It was a super friendly combination of cultures, and everyone seemed to be a musician or rockstar of some sort.
Now throw all of that into the Barbados Scenery and you’ve got yourself a kick-ass time!

I knew Karen was a bit of a rebel when she surprisingly suggested that we do the Trash the Dress shoot the day of the wedding and it worked out amazingly with the locations we found!
The day started with a beautiful “first look” between Karen and Jesse, then the three of us hopped into a (thankfully) air conditioned car to embark on our romantic portrait safari. First stop set the bar high with this amazing location called “Ragged Point” Lighthouse that I had found on google. The decrepit, ruin look was just perfect to juxtapose with Karen’s dress and beauty.
I couldn’t believe that they were both okay with running through the questionable flooring, not to mention climbing up into the window frames! These photographs will forever be some of my favorite.
We also visited the Farley Hill mansion ruins and a historic monument called the Morgan Lewis Windmill, it is one of the only two working sugar windmills in the world today. Aside from the lighthouse, my other favorite photo location had to have been the “Animal Flower Cave”, named so because of the abundant sea anemone populating the shallow pools in these famous ocean-side caves.
I was in photography heaven. I wanted to put so many more images on this post, but I had to draw the line somewhere.
Oh, and a monkey ate Karen’s hair flowers. How many brides can say that!?

The ceremony took place on the seaside under a gorgeous arbutus tree, which was dwarfed in beauty only by Karen’s huge smile, when it managed to explode among the happy tears. Everyone was crying actually. Their vows corresponded appropriately with the wedding’s “pirate” theme and were burned and sealed inside of glass bottles.
After the wedding, the entire bridal party and some family members ran immediately into the ocean! Before I knew what was happening, I was up to my neck in the ocean myself, with my $8,000 camera right there with me haha, though I wasn’t worried. Everyone had the most wonderful feeling frolicking in the waves, Karen and her girls even started doing sand-angels!
The reception was wild and the following afternoon we all partied on a catamaran and snorkeled with giant turtles.

Thank you for the wonderful experience, next time I’m in NY we are hanging out with your own pet turtle.

Tamee looked absolutely stunning in a gold and white Sari, like an Indian princess with glittery mega-high heels.
Tamee even let me borrow one of her Saris to wear on the wedding day. I had photographed her Mehndi night a couple days prior, so I got to have my own henna done as well! I got lots of compliments!
It was my first Indian wedding and the colors and cuisine and the only thing more colorful were the friendly family members.
It could not have been a better experience. Thank you so much for having Jesse and I at your wedding.
I look forward to photographing the future mini Karims running around!

The ceremony was held at the St. Peter and Paul Church, though traditional, it was filled with occasional laughter and Sarah and Andrew seemed completely at ease up there.

After the ceremony, we had some fun taking photos at McCormack Hall, the school where Andrew actually grew up. The rest of the romantic portraits were taken around the Reception location – the beautiful Pan Pacific Hotel on the waterfront. Don’t even get me started on the details! Granville Island Florists did a fantastic job on the intricate floral arrangements, and everything ran smoothly thanks to the tight ship that is run by Tara Thorp with Forever True Wedding Planning.

Of course, the real magic came from the heartfelt speeches and hilarious childhood anecdotes. The only thing missing was their weiner dog Susie.

Jesse and I had a blast shooting your wedding. Thanks for having us along!

Inspired by an Indian garment tradition, we shot the wardrobe series in their living room and were able to bring out their quirky and genuine nature in this eco-friendly wedding e-vite.

Later, I incorporated parts of the e-vite into a master slideshow for the wedding reception.

I am so excited to have shot my first East Indian wedding with these two lovebirds! I feel so blessed to have been able to contribute something to this exciting time in their lives, because without a doubt these are a couple of very cool people.
